Default Guild Wars Prophecies Collectors Worth It?

I saw Guild Wars Prophecies Collectors Editon on eBay that sold at the final bid of $865! Is it really that much better? Would you buy it? Here is a random question, if you could have the option of sacrificing all of your wintersday hats for the Guild Wars Prophecies CE editon, would you do it?

I think its ridiculous for someone to pay that much for a game, whats so special?

Xenex, you're saying that glowing hands makes the CE worth the $865 bid he claims to have seen? If that's the case then you have too much money.

Is it worth $865? No.
Is it worth buying at retail price? Yes.

I'd rather the GOTY upgrade, though, weapons are more useful than glowing hands

The glowing hands thing was a joke.
However being able to to show you have GWP CE is still something to brag about.

Even at $864 its worth it, the reason being that you are getting it now, instead of when it first came out when it was indeed worth ~$60

About the price, ill say the same thing i say in game , its worth whatever the seller and the buyer can agree on.
If i had the money, i would buy it.

Having the CE version of Profecies, Factions and NightFall, I think that the price paid is slightly steep but if it is an unopened box, then it may be worth it. If you want a copy of the CE of Profecies then do a google search for it, you might be surprised to find one or 2 still available at reasonable prices.

I'm more wary of whether the game's been installed and used by its previous owner. If so, the buyer could very easily end up with nothing for whatever they end up paying.

No its not worth it.

There is nothing added to game content, its just about glowing hands.

IF your looking on something to spend cash on go to GW store and buy unlock packs or extra char slots.

Crom is right. If you really want to add something then go to the Guild Wars storeand get one of the unlock packs. That is the true safe path. As far as anything bought off of E-Bay, you are taking a chance that the seller has used the Key-Code already, so it is not worth it unless you get a guarantee that the box has been un-opened and a money back gurantee (both Pay-pal and E-Bay have a system where your purchase is protected from fraud). Here is a link to Amazon.com that has several of the Profecies CE's available still. Don't get a used one as the key is useless: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index=blended%26field-keywords=guild%20wars%20collector's%20edition%26re sults-process=default%26dispatch=search/ref=pd_sl_ov_tops-1_blended_9286815_1&results-process=default?tag2=over-std-20 (copy and paste starting from the http all the way to the 20 seeing as the forum doesnot recognize this as a link).

Good luck and happy hunting.

Nope. Not worth it. For that price, I could buy a new TV. Or heck, pay off a credit card.

New TV or paid off credit card vs glowy hands on a video game? :P

Maybe worth it for $150-200, but not for over $800.

865 dollars - No, not worth it. I have seen many other cheaper ones on ebay, and i got mine for 120 bucks.

200 dollars or less - is worth it i think. Its not worth it just for glowing hands in game, but its worth it beacuse it is a collectors edition - and its pretty rare. Its much easier to find both the factions and nightfall CE's.

I know they aren't going for as cheap as the one I got, BUT you could still find a much much much better deal than 800 dollars!!

The average price I've seen lately is around $300 for unopenned Prophecy CE's.

I got mine from an Amazon Marketplace seller for around that. I still need to make a new character called "Has Too Much Money." lol

What's really sick is I'm thinking about picking up one for my other account.

And it's called "Divine Aura" not glowing hands. I didn't pay $300 for a glow. lol

Aye, I too purchased my CE off of Amazon after losing the bid for that $865 one on Ebay; Was the first bidder and then decided to camp it for the last few minutes until I checked it to see how high it climbed....

To me, $865 is a bit excessive but I don't have an issue shelling out the $300 for something that will effect all of the classes that are out thus far and the ones to come...

The way I see it is: I pay an extra $20 for the CE expansion which gives me the In-game CE bonus on two classes ($10 per class); that's $40 across the Factions and NF classes which are restricted to those areas; When you take into consideration of Prophecies CE expanding out across the 5 core professions and multiply it by the ability to do this across all expansions, current and future in addition to all the professions that come with it...
...
yeah, I think it's worth the $300 I paid for it...

and ferozen... how does sacrificing wintersday hats in-game compare to $865? I don't care if I have the hats or not.... I participated in the event because we now have storage for 'em and it's another little fun thingy to own... ??-??

If the CE was a true Collectors Edition (no more then 100 sold worldwide) then I would buy it and any others that went up for sale.

not to me, but since this is an entirely subjective response you've polled for why not just decide if it's worth that to YOU?

To me it's not... These things don't matter to me at all.

I could of got Factions CE for free as i have gift vouchers for HMV that i won from somewhere. But instead i opted for standard Factions, and i still haven't spent the remainder of the gift vouchers and 6 months has passed. All i want is access to the game afterall so i think i did the right thing!

Suppose i should spend those vouchers though as they run out in May. :P

For those of you who wanted to see for your own eyes about the bid, here is the link:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Guild-Wars-PROPH...QQcmdZViewItem

I forgot to add $9 shipping so... it sold for $874. A friend of mine seems to be desperate for santa hats. I have currently have guild wars nightfall only and hes offering me his prohpecies collectors account in exchange for my account. None of them are PlayNC linked so, I'm wondering if I should take up the offer and sacrifice the four hats I got for the prophecies collectors edition account.

Wow if thats the case why didnt you mention it sooner, if it were me, considering nightfall is still new and any characters made in that are still virtually new, ( compared to my beta ranger thats about 3 years old) I would do the trad.

You could much easier go to the store and buy a new nightfall , its not that easy to do that with the collectors edition.

But then again, both things are just show off , show off the hat or show off that you got GWP CE, which one is worth more to you? ( for me its the CE btw)

You might want to consider the fact that at anytime your friend can get that account back. Even if you change password and e-mail address to your own.. all he has to do is contact ANet and state he's lost access to his account.. provide evidence that the account is his.. and he'll once again have access to the account.

You might also want to consider that swapping accounts is against the EULA, and if caught can lead to both accounts being permanently banned.
